I designed this sweater to honor Representative John Lewis (D-GA) and his lifetime fight for voting rights for every American. The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act is currently stuck in the Senate thanks to political agendas. As we move into the US 2022 midterm election, passing this bill is critical for the election integrity of our country. More broadly, how can we champion voting rights globally and help governments move from autocratic to democratic rule focused on fair and free elections, but we can’t seem to get it together at home.
Every-time I wear my Good Trouble sweater, I end up talking to people about why this bill is so important, why speaking to their Senator to vote to pass this bill is important and what happens if congress continues to play a dangerous game with voting rights.
The Senate MUST pass The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act otherwise, we should be prepared for another election cycle riddled with ‘big lies’ and millions of voters unable to exercise their right to vote.
